  • CMU jazz profs get 'Caught in the Act' on new disc

    The title of their first compact disc might raise a few eyebrows, but members of Central Michigan University's Faculty Jazz Ensemble don't mind. "Caught in the Act," the group's recent release on the CMU School of Music's White Pine Music recording label, lives up to its name, as it was recorded during a single, four-hour session in May and has a "live quality" that can only come from the collaborative recording of a group as opposed to recording each instrument individually, said saxophonist John Nichol. -read more.
  • Pleasant 'echoes': CMU ensembles to release woodwind CD

    Neoclassical to contemporary woodwind works will be featured on an upcoming compact disc by three Central Michigan University faculty artists. "Woodwind Echoes," scheduled for December release on CMU's White Pine Music recording label, will feature woodwind chamber music for flute, clarinet, saxophone and percussion from two CMU School of Music faculty ensembles, the Crescent Duo and the Eclectic Trio. -read more.
  • A familiar tune: CMU prof wins 11th ASCAP award

    For the 11th consecutive year, a prolific Central Michigan University faculty composer has landed a coveted, professional honor. School of Music Professor David Gillingham has received a 2007 ASCAP Standard Award for Outstanding Achievement in Classical Music from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. -read more.
  • CMU students win prestigious Liberace Foundation Scholarships

    A trio of Central Michigan University music students has received full tuition scholarship awards provided by a national organization. Senior Eric Dluzniewski of Livonia; senior Todd Gaffke of Grayling; and graduate student Jeffery Lund of Puyallup, Wash., received 2007-08 Liberace Foundation Scholarships for their performances at a CMU School of Music competition. The Liberace Foundation awarded the scholarships for the first time at CMU, providing the funds to cover each recipient's tuition for the current academic year -read more.
