Kristen Pellegrino
Temporary Oboe Professor
Kristen Pellegrino is joining the music education faculty at Central Michigan University while completing her PhD program in music education at the University of Michigan. Her dissertation, “The Meanings and Values of Music-making in the Lives of String Teachers and the Intersections of Music-making and Teaching”, will be completed in February, 2010.
Previous degrees include a BM in Violin Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music and MM in Violin Performance (Chamber Music) from the University of Michigan. Kristen has over eight years of full-time music educator experience; first teaching strings in the Fairfax County Public Schools and then as String Teacher and Orchestra Conductor at Toll Gate HS, her alma mater.
Her research interests include music teacher identity, lives of teacher research, and professional development. Kristen has presented research at several conferences, including American Educational Research Association (AERA), American String Teachers Association (ASTA), Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), and MENC’s Eastern Conference and has publications in press (Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education (CRME) and Journal of Music Teacher Education (JMTE) and in review.
Kristen continues to be an active chamber musician and was heard in six chamber music concerts this June as part of RI’s Music on the Hill Chamber Music Series.
