CMU'S "Opus XII" to feature catered dinner, dancing, performances by CMU music students

"Opus" which started in conjunction with the opening of our Music Building, has become a university-wide and community-wide town-and-gown gathering that has been enormously successful." said Randi L'Hommedieu, director of the School of Music.

"We look at it as an opportunity to share our beautiful building with friends and supporters and to showcase some of CMU's most talented students who audition for the chance to perform. It's very competitive."

"Opus XII" begins at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres in the Janet Thorne Tuma Lobby with background music provided by one of CMU's talented student groups.

Dinner, catered by several of the regions finest establishments, begins at 7 p.m. in the Norman C. Dietz Band Rehearsal Hall.

Following dinner will be a collage concert in the Music Buildings Staples Family Concert Hall. This concert moves rapidly from one piece to the next, and will feature an international theme this year, with music selections from a number of different countries and cultures.

"Opus" also is planned as a way to recognize members of the CMU Bell Tower Society - individuals, corporations and foundations that have made significant contributions to the university.

Proceeds from "Opus XII" will benefit the School of Music Endowment, which supports critical student scholarships, student travel, equipment and instruments, guest artist performances and workshops.

Tickets are TBA, and as always a portion is contributed to the School of Music. Individual tickets and corporate and group sponsorships may be arranged by calling Christine Alwood in CMU's development and alumni relations office at (989) 774-7155.
