Technology
CMU demonstrated its commitment to the use of technology in music instruction with the opening of the new Music Building in Fall 1997. The School of Music features excellent state-of-the-art facilities for music technology.
All faculty, staff, and graduate assistants have computers in their offices as well. All computers are connected to a fast ethernet network which provides a direct connection to the Internet and allows access to file and printer servers throughout the School of Music and university.

Additionally, the School of Music Residential College, located in Herrig Residence Hall, features a computer lab on the second floor, among the living quarters, and a mediated classroom in the basement.
There are several MIDI-equipped practice rooms, which feature the accompaniment software programs Band-in-a-Box and Coda's SmartMusic.
The Electronic Keyboard Lab is equipped with 20 Yamaha Clavinova electronic pianos which are linked to the instructor with a keyboard lab system. This lab is used for class piano instruction.Classes
The School of Music offers comprehensive courses in various aspects of Music Technology. New this summer for in-service teachers, CMU will offer courses leading to Level 1 certification in Music Technology by the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME).
Computer Purchasing
Those students interested in purchasing a computer that will be compatible with the School of Music's technology should consider an Apple computer able to run the latest operating system. Student discounts for new computers are available through the CMU/Apple Store.
